The flagship engagement

Business Performance Assessment

A structured review of your business that identifies what is preventing stronger, more consistent results, and gives you a clear, prioritised plan to fix it.

What it is

Diagnosis before prescription

Most consulting engagements start with a solution looking for a problem. Ours starts with a question: what is actually holding this business back?

The Business Performance Assessment is a whole-business review built on Authority Advisory's business review methodology. It examines how your business makes money, how work gets done, how decisions get made and how your people are organised and led, then separates the symptoms from the root causes.

Problems it is designed to uncover

  • Profit leaks, where margin is quietly lost despite growing revenue
  • Operational bottlenecks that slow delivery and frustrate customers
  • Decision bottlenecks, where everything waits for the founder
  • Process breakdowns and inconsistency between departments
  • Organisational gaps, unclear roles, weak accountability
  • Leadership and capability gaps in the management team
Scope

What we review

Commercial performance

Revenue quality, margins, pricing, costs and cash, where the money is made and where it leaks.

Operations & processes

How work actually flows across the business, where it breaks down, and what it costs when it does.

Organisation & people

Structure, roles, decision rights, accountability and whether managers are genuinely managing.

Leadership & decisions

How decisions are made, what depends on the founder, and how the leadership team functions.

Sales & marketing

How predictable the revenue engine is, and how well sales activity converts into profitable work.

Systems & data

Whether your reporting, tools and data let you see and manage the business, including where AI could realistically help.

Process

How the assessment works

  1. Scoping conversation. We agree the focus, the people involved and the timeline.
  2. Information gathering. We review key numbers, documents and processes, and interview the founder and key team members.
  3. Analysis. We identify the root causes behind the symptoms, and test our findings with you.
  4. Prioritisation. Not everything can be fixed at once. We rank the improvements by impact and practicality.
  5. Roadmap presentation. We walk you and your leadership team through the findings and the recommended sequence of change.
Deliverables

What you receive

  • A clear, evidence-based picture of how your business is really performing
  • The root causes behind your most persistent problems
  • A prioritised list of the improvements that matter most
  • A practical implementation roadmap your team can act on
  • A working session with your leadership team to align on the findings

What happens afterwards

The roadmap is yours. Some clients implement it internally; most choose to continue with our Business Improvement and Implementation Programme, where we help your team make the changes stick.

Who should consider it

  • Founders of established SMEs (roughly RM5 to RM20 million revenue) who sense the business is underperforming its potential
  • Owners facing persistent problems that training, software or hiring have not fixed
  • Leaders preparing the business for the next stage of growth, succession or reduced founder involvement

What preparation is required

Very little beyond openness. We will ask for access to key financial and operational information, and time with you and selected team members. Everything is treated as strictly confidential, and we are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement before we begin.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does the assessment take?

It depends on the size and complexity of the business. The scope and timeline are confirmed with you before the assessment begins.

Will this disrupt our daily operations?

The assessment is designed to fit around your operations. Interviews and working sessions are scheduled in advance, and most information gathering happens without interrupting day-to-day work.

Is our business information kept confidential?

Yes. All client information is treated as strictly confidential, and we are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement before work begins.

Are we obliged to continue after the assessment?

No. The assessment is a complete engagement on its own. Many clients choose to continue into implementation, but the roadmap is yours either way.
